A life skills session was conducted with an adolescent girls’ group in Bahadurpur with the objective of fostering better relationships, recognizing strengths and weaknesses, and moving forward with a positive outlook on life. During the session, several issues came to light, reflecting the challenges these girls face in pursuing education and personal growth.
Ten girls, who were admitted to class 6 through organizational efforts, initially attended school but later dropped out. Upon inquiry, it was revealed that they faced harassment from boys on their way to school. When the girls reported this to their families, conflicts ensued, leading parents to prohibit them from attending school. Attempts to speak with their parents were unsuccessful as they were away for work.
Another participant, who had studied up to class 5, expressed her desire to resume her education. However, her parents were unwilling to support her. Similarly, another girl also dropped out of school, stating that household responsibilities prevented her from continuing her studies.
The session highlighted the need for discussions with parents to address these challenges. Since most parents work as laborers and are unavailable during the day, the group scheduled another meeting to explore solutions. Despite their aspirations, the girls remain constrained by familial and societal pressures, requiring collective efforts to support their education and empowerment.
